Getting started
- Open Winback Lift in your Shopify admin and click Import order history. A Shopify bulk operation imports the last two years of orders (usually a few minutes).
- Check Reorder windows: each product gets its own median days between two orders that both contain it (every line item counts) once it has 5 or more observed reorders; others use the store median. When the last order holds several products, the one with its own window that is due soonest sets the stage.
- Check Segments: customers are grouped by lapse stage (days since the last order ÷ the reorder window) and a 0–100 recoverability score. The "historical 30-day return" column shows how many similar customers ordered again within 30 days in the past, under your usual marketing (a benchmark, not proof of what happens without messages).
- In Settings, connect Klaviyo with a private API key that has the scopes
lists:write, lists:read, profiles:write, profiles:read, metrics:readandevents:read. - In Holdout tests → New test, preview a cohort, check the sample-size recommendation, then Freeze cohort and start test. The app adds the groups to two new Klaviyo lists: "Winback Lift – <test> – Treatment" and "… – Holdout".
- In Klaviyo, trigger your win-back flow on "Added to list: Treatment" and exclude the Holdout list from all other campaigns and flows for the test length.
- Without Klaviyo, or in addition: on the test page click Send groups to Shopify Flow. In Shopify Flow, start a workflow with the trigger "Winback Lift test group assigned", add the condition "Group is treatment" and, for example, send a Shopify Email or add a tag.
- Run Check contamination now and then, and read the result when the planned length is reached.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the app say only the last 60 days are visible? Shopify gives apps older orders only after it approves the "read all orders" access. Until then reorder windows use 60 days of history.
Why are some customers not eligible? Customers need an email address and the email marketing state "subscribed" in Shopify. Customers whose last order was refunded are on a service hold, and customers in another running test are excluded so that tests do not overlap.
What does "contaminated" mean? A holdout customer received a Klaviyo email or SMS after the test started, or used the win-back discount code. They stay in the holdout (intent-to-treat), and the report warns when more than 5 % are affected.
Why does the report say "Not enough data"? The app only calls a win when the test reached its planned length, the groups reached the recommended sample size, and the difference is statistically significant. Small stores can widen the cohort or run the test longer.
Do I need Klaviyo? No. Without Klaviyo you can download the treatment and holdout groups as CSV files and use any email tool, but the contamination check then covers discount codes only.
What does the app change in my store? Nothing. It only reads data. In Klaviyo it creates lists and sets four profile properties; it never changes consent and never sends messages.
How do I delete my data? Uninstall the app. Running tests end, the Klaviyo key is deleted at once, and all store data is deleted when Shopify sends the shop deletion request 48 hours later.
